Act three Scene two. Juliet finds out that her husband, Romeo, has murdered her cousin Tybalt. In this scene we discover the feelings Juliet has over the news that her Nurse has delivered to her. “Say Something” by A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera.
Romeo and Juliet is about two star-crossed lovers who have a strong desire to be with each other, despite the ups and downs they encounter along the way. I have chosen this song, which will not only fit with the scene I have selected, but with the rest of the story. “Say Something” is about a breakup, where the lover is implored to make a statement that could potentially reverse plans. The singers express humility, sadness and regret, which Juliet also conveys when she discovers her husband has killed her cousin, Tybalt. After figuring out the situation, Juliet immediately regrets marrying Romeo, and starts to curse at his name and his presence in life. “ Just opposite to what thou justly seems’t… O, that deceit should dwell in such a gorgeous palace.” (3.2.80) Just as Juliet damned Romeo, the singer claims that he had no idea what he had walked into until after the disaster. “And I am feeling so small, it was over my head, I know nothing at all, and I will stumble and fall, I'm still learning to love. After doubting the young Romeo, Juliet starts to forgive him, for she understands that Tybalt would have killed him at some point. Still, there is some doubt in her voice, because she starts to realize her husband is banished, and she wishes to see him one last time. “My husband lives, that Tybalt would have slain… that one word banished hath slain ten thousand Tybalt’s…” (3.2.105) Similarly, the male singer starts to claim that he is giving up on his girlfriend, but longs to see her once more, despite of her wrong-doings. “I'll be the one, if you want me to, anywhere, I would've followed you, say something, I'm giving up on you.” In conclusion, this song would be a perfect match for this scene because it explains the regret and love that Juliet was having over the marriage of Romeo, and it really explains the relationship the two have, not only in that scene, but throughout the tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet.

Lyrics
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere, I would have followed you
Oh-oh-oh-oh say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere, I would have followed you
Oh-oh-oh-oh say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something
